Deloitte Breach: If you haven’t worked out that you need Data Leak Protection …

The global tax and auditing firm Deloitte has confirmed that the company suffered a cyber attack that resulted in the theft of confidential information, including the private emails and documents of some of its clients.

The breach was reported in the Guardian today, where we learned that the top-four accounting firm which provides auditing, tax consultancy and high-end cybersecurity advice to some of the world’s biggest banks, multinational companies, media enterprises, pharmaceutical firms and government agencies had suffered a breach itself.

The irony of a consulting firm with CyberSecurity consulting customers being hacked themselves is not lost on many.

The Guardian reported that in addition to emails, the hackers had access to usernames, passwords, IP addresses, architectural diagrams for businesses and health information.

The breach is believed to have been mainly US-focused and was regarded as so sensitive that only a handful of Deloitte’s most senior partners and lawyers were informed.

If you haven’t got the idea that you need Data Leak Protection yet, we don’t think you ever will understand how important it is.
